A Birthday Wall Hanging and Other Neutrals

It's Simply Neutrals Tuesday # 11. It's about time I created something! Here is a wall hanging I made for my mum's birthday last week. You can see Suzy's influence here, but I have always loved these muted colours and 'beautiful ladies'.

I had to get some images printed at a printer as mine had died. I am waiting for my new printer to come by mail soon. I much prefer having control over the images. This one was printed on a canvas, which is a lovely texture, but a little shiny up close. I found the fringe on a roll at Vinnies last week, too. It's always fun going in to see what treasure may be discarded by someone else!

Here's a closeup. The berries at the top were a Vinnies find, too - an old Christmas wreath decoration which I spray-painted white. There's a tiny scrap of wedding dress pearls in the corner.

Here is a bear I made from an old fur coat from an op shop. It was a leather base, so sadly it must have been a young goat or something similar. The hair is so soft. It was very fine and brittle and hard to sew without tearing.

Here's a couple of quilt blocks from that quilt -not really neutral, but all together the quilt reads as neutral on the wall :)

Here's the quilt on the wall:

I took this photo years ago with my Olympus OM2-N SLR (not a digital camera).

Gypsy our cheeky cat loves sleeping in cosy places... the doll pram.

A bunch of my Spring roses for you all.

Have a lovely week, and check out all the wonderful Simply Neutrals blogposts at Wen's blog at http://www.appleapricot.blogspot.com.au/  Thank you Wen for hosting this party.

Oh, and some lovely news - our band Ballyhooley has been selected to take part in the 50th Anniversary national Folk Music Festival in Canberra at Easter. I posted some old photos on my facebook page if you are interested:

Hugs,
Jesse

  5. Hi Jesse! You are so very talented. Is there anything you don't know how to make? Lovely fabric art. I love the berries at the top and that beautiful lady. And that bear is just the cutest thing. Your rose photo is stunning, and I adore the frame that you put around it. If you want to reveal a secret, I would love to know where you got that digital frame. Thanks ever so much! XO Sue

    1. Hi Sue, I love to dabble in all sorts of crafty things - but I'm sure there are tons I haven't tried! And tons that just take too much time to complete! Alas, the frame! I searched my computer, but I fear it was from days when I was not as organised, and I don't know where the original came from, and I may have accidentally adapted it and saved over it anyway! I think it is several textures overlaid. But I have bought many textures from Kim Klassen, and http://2lilowls.com/ which I love to use. I thought I would find the author of a texture by the file name they used, but it doesn't work. I need a better system, as many people like you to link back to where you found the texture, and I find it hard if I downloaded it years ago.

I guess I could start a new Microsoft word doc for each texture with the texture inserted and the web address where I got it, plus contact name... but that would take so long for each one, and they may not even be used. Those who provide a zipped folder of textures usually give their contact details inside.
Do you have a system for this? Any ideas?
      I do love Photoshop Elements!
      Hugs,
      Jesse

    1. Dear Wen, Thanks for your lovely comments. You are such a warm and welcoming host! I'm glad I'm not taken to task for some not really neutrals! It just felt right to show the quilt then, too :)
      Hugs to you too,

  8. Hi Jesse
Such a beautiful post here today! Your collage is just beautiful along with the berries, the muted tone on tone fabrics to suit the image. I bet your mother is very proud of your creativity. Your bear is soooo beautiful also made with that skin - I can only imagine how soft he is and looks like Gypsy is enjoying the warmth and comfort from it also. Your quilt is so pretty hanging there just as your rose. Do you know it's name? Could it be Just Joey? Handmade quilts are real treasures!

Those windswept trees with the dry grass in the foreground looks perfect in that frame too.

Now I do have Photoshop Elements but have never taken the time to learn it. Bad me! One of these days!!!

Enjoy the party Link up Jesse!

    Hugs from me,
    Suzy

    1. Hi Suzy, Thanks for visiting my blog. The rose is not Just Joey, it's much more like a wild briar rose, totally prickly and rampant. It's grown a huge spiky thicket in one year - it must be the one around Rapunzel's castle, I think!!! It's called Albertine.

I do love Photoshop Elements, but it takes time to learn, it's so filled with possibility!

      Hugs to you,
      Jesse

  10. Hi Jesse, thanks for dropping by my blog. :-) I love, love love your wall hanging, and that little bear is just adorable! I'm not surprised you are also musical. Most creatives tend to show flair in lots of different areas and you are obviously very skilled in more ways than one! Very inspiring blog! x Julie

    1. Thanks, Julie, that's so kind of you to drop by and leave such a kind comment :) I do think you are right - creativity bursts out in all directions, doesn't it? But I do admire people (like Suzy above) who take one general direction and go deeply into it. I am in danger of doing lots of things but not being excellent at any!!!
I enjoyed looking at your blog, too.
      Hugs,

      Jesse
